Today my dad was very quiet. Why? He is like that some days. I am like that some days. Is he confused? Is he tired? Maybe he just doesn't have anything to say. My mom and husband commented about it also. Sometimes I wish that I could get into his head and see what he is thinking.

Hi Donna,
When my Dad was in his first year or so of more advancing dementia, he would have times when he conciously realized that he was going downhill and that he said really odd things quite often and had really bizarre thoughts. So he was embarrassed. My usually talkative, outgoing Dad who loved a get together would just sit to the side with a kind of sad look and not say a word. I asked him once when that happened if he was tired and he confided that no, he just was enjoying the conversation but didn't want to say anything because it was embarrassing.
Just thought I'd share that in case that helps your 'quiet' mystery.
You're such a dear daughter to him I know. Thanks
My daughter talked me into opening my comments on my blog the other day and I am glad that she did. I am sorry for the loss of your family dog..they really do become an important part of our families. My heart is with you here taking are of your father. I just lost my father two years ago and I too helped my mom take care of him. You are a good daughter and your stories here have touched me.
